Queen of Pop

The multi talented actress ‘Madonna’ is not an unknown celebrity. The 50 years old gorgeous lady has made her immense presence felt in various artistic areas. She is an American pop singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist, record producer, actress and author. She was born in Detroit, Michigan but moved to New York to pursue her career in ballet. Her mother Madonna Loiuse was a French Canadian descent and her father Silvio Tony P. Ciccone was an Italian American. At the age of 30, she lost her mother because of the breast cancer and her father married to the home keeper. In 1983, she started her career as a solo recording artist with the release of her self titled album. Madonna has always been regarded as the ‘Queen of Pop’.

She is the actor who made her acting debut with the low budget films. She has featured in the several hit Hollywood movies like Dick Tracy, A League of Their Own and lots more. Her movie Evita has earned her a Golden Globe Award for Best Actress. Moreover, she got her name written in Guinness World Record lists as the ‘World’s most successful female recording artist of all time’ and the top earning female singer in the World with approximately $400 million who sold over 200 million albums worldwide. Her looks and dressing sense during live performances and in music videos has been adopted by young girls and women.

A demo tape of the tracks like born to Be Live and the Breakfast Club has influenced the Mark Kamins who signed Madonna for her first single Everybody which became a huge hit in 1982. After that her each album hit the box office with full bang. The successful albums are Physical Attraction, Holiday, Lucky Star.

Madonna is a passionate woman who is determined to mesmerize the media and public with her songs and dance forever.

Spotlight: Ledisi Covers Madonna's 'Borderline'

I stumbled across this yesterday on ledisi.com. Jody Watley has previously covered this Madonna hit, giving it a slightly electro-soul feel, however knowing how Ledisi does I was intrigued to hear what this would sound like given the full-on ’soul’ treatment.

Ledisi – Borderline [Demo]          Download

I could listen to a whole album of Ledisi giving pop standards a soul makeover … do you agree?

Q: How old am I?

A1:  As of 5:18 pm EST, I am 28 years old.  I’ve been waiting to be 28 for, like, my whole life.

Seriously though, I remember being in second grade and inventing characters to play when my cousins and I played house.  We chose new names and hair colors and ages for ourselves and we got to pick hunky dudes from New Kids on the Block or 90210 to be our boyfriends… and we got to choose how old we were.  I was always 28.  I still can’t tell you why being 28 seemed so compelling back then, but it was.  In that strange, intuitive way little kids have of predicting their futures,* I always had this sense that 28 was significant.

*When I was four, I wrote a book of poems by dictating them to my dad.  I even wrote an author blurb on the back cover.Yeah, I know. It’s weird.  And might not come to anything at all (I might have been clairvoyant at 4 and just delusional at 8; who knows?  I’m also eating frosting out of the container right now [IT IS MY BIRTHDAY, GODDAMMIT] and might die of diabetic shock before I even officially turn 28), but I feel really good about this particular age.

I think this year might be kind of awesome.

A2: Fucking OLD.

And do you know how I know this?  Because the other day, one of my all-time favorite tee shirts–a t-shirt I have been wearing to bed (due to its extreme XL largeness) since I was 8 and pretending to be 28– decided to spontaneously disintegrate while I was wearing it.  I woke up a couple mornings ago and my whole side was cold because at some point in the night, I managed to tear a GIGANTIC hole in the washed-a-thousand-times fabric of my very first Madonna tee, which my godfather brought back for me from some Pioneer promotional thing back in the day:

The carnage. I have no idea how I managed to do this while asleep.

This was all very sad, of course, but it only got sadder when I turned the tee over to inspect the back and realized that OH MY FUCKING GOD, it’s from Madonna’s Blonde Ambition tour.  IN 1990.  This t-shirt is straight-up TWENTY FREAKING YEARS OLD.  I never thought I’d be so old as to have items of clothing that could vote or get tattooed or buy cigarettes.  MY SHIRT IS PRACTICALLY OLD ENOUGH TO DRINK, PEOPLE.

Do I even know any songs from Like a Prayer besides "Like a Prayer"?

Jesus, I am old.  I don’t feel old, though, which makes the passage of time even more alarming.  I still feel the way I did when I was eight, just with more knowledge and better taste in clothing (those flowered culottes?  thank god I didn’t keep those around for twenty years), and it makes me wonder if the arrested development thing I’ve got going on will eventually turn me into some analog of those nutters who go in for Botox and highlights every six weeks and wear their kids’ clothing.  I already have an unholy addiction to the gym because I have an impossible, Sisyphean desire to look like I did when I was rowing in highschool, and I spend more money than God on fancy face cream so that I will never look in the mirror and see someone who is 28 till I’m forty.

But if I start taking a page out of the Madonna book, I give you all permission to smack me in my baby-ass-skinned face and tell me to knock it off.  Because good old Madge looks like an alien whose human suit shrunk in the wash and doesn’t fit any more:

News; crotch-grabbing people, Dick, Beckham, Hawaii civil union, Holland raised 41 million euro for Haiti

Andy Dick has got himself in trouble again. The comic was arrested and charged with 2 counts of sexual abuse for groping and kissing patrons and bouncers in a Huntington, West Virginia, nightclub. He was in Huntington for his comedy shows and had grabbed attention already by dropping the skirt he was wearing as Daphne Aguilera and being nude on stage for at least 5 minutes. In a the book of Kathy Griffin there is a similar sketch described about Andy and he just seems a good guy that is extremely funny( and I would def. like to see him perform) and extremely troubled as well.

Andy was not the only person grabbing genitals this week. David Beckham got his balls grabbed by a female italian TV-host of the show The Hyena’s in Milan. After doing it she screamed: “You lied, you are small.” Meaning the Armani underwear billboards Beckham modeled for. Just super rude and the bitch needs a fine at least for this, just not funny.

The Hawaii Senate passed a civil union bill that would give gay and straight people entering it the same rights as married couples with 18-7. Now the house has to vote on it and I think it is about time this happened in Hawaii because there has been talk about it. there for years. This is the way it happened in the Netherlands and Britain as well and maybe should be what the U.S strives for as well now that all the bigots do not want gay marriage yet.

The Haiti telethon in the U.S was a success by earning 57 million dollars. Multiple stars sing live for the good cause and Madonna as surprisingly strong. Voice is really getting better by the years. In the Netherlands there was a similar action and raised 41 million euros so even more in dollars. The government doubled it so together it was 82 million euros. I think the U.S did good as well, but having 307 million people there and 16 million in the Netherlands, we did absolutely fantastic.

You won’t find this at stores though…The Absolutement Madonna fansite has posted the full audio of the show and is currently in the process of uploading the video! (FYI the quality is very very good!) So all you have to do is get a fast internet line and start the downloading!

‘Bust’ Quote: Jay Manuel on E! commenting on Mariah Carey’s very visible ‘globes.’

Best/Bust Invention: The ‘Glam Cam 360,’ a somewhat scary virtual Lazy Susan that rotates hapless stars in their gowns onscreen while a snarky voiceover critiques every angle and ’shoulder detail’…

Lourdes Leon - 'Madge Mark 2'

listening to: katy perry – if you can afford me

She’d been labeled as ‘mini madge’ by tabloid magazines, has been approached by H&M to design a range of children’s clothing and has apparently been offered a part in the final Harry Potter film, all by the tender age of thirteen.

Browsing the internet, you’ll see claims that Lourdes has always said she wants to be a dancer, would love to be an actress, is the next big style icon, has a boyfriend named Carlo, and there’s probably something out there concerning some kind of scandal. If we assume that most of the rumours are true, Lourdes will be making quite a name for herself in the coming years. I picture her as a bit of a Peaches Geldof type person – jack of all trades, master of none… with a rich mummy. However, obviously Madge will insist that Lourdes has made her own way in the world, and little Lourdes will claim that she doesn’t want or need her mama’s help… until mum pulls through and lands her a film role that experienced, trained and worthy actors would kick old grannies in the tits for.

Luckily, I have faith in the British public, and I’m confident that the majority of us will not allow Lourdes Leon to march into our lives as though she’s the Queen of Pop or something. I have nothing against Lourdes for now, I just want her to earn our respect before she starts prancing around demanding the attention of our seriously overworked paparazzi. Is that too much to ask from Madge Mark 2?

Time goes by so slowly.

I don’t think I could have asked for a better first day back to class. I am just going to have to work on going to bed at a normal time. Of course, normal these days seems to be anytime before one.  I usually get into bed around midnight, but I don’t ever fall asleep before three. I am not sure what’s wrong. It also doesn’t help that I hate sleeping alone. Yes, today Blake left to London. Actually right now he’s on a plane over the Atlantic. It’s weird but the fact that there is going to be a six hour time change between us is really bothering me. We won’t be going to bed and waking up at the same time anymore. I won’t wake up to a text message from him, or a phone call. It was those little things that made him being just four hours away easier. But now it’s all different. Actually his sister Taylor had a really good idea that would keep him from leaving us. She could put a bomb shaped object in his suitcase so they would think he was a terrorist. I suppose that is a bit dramatic. But it’s also all good. Like I said, we can do this. Plus I am a strong and focused person…I just wish I were a little more patient. Anyways, April 30th will be here before I know it :):):)

I am trying to plan out the next few weeks but there isn’t really much going on. Yesterday Haley and I hung out for a little bit, and I talked to her parents about not letting her go to SEMO for college. Haha, it’s honestly none of my business, but really. I don’t like the idea at all. Who knows, maybe I will get used to it. Or she will stay here. I am hoping for the latter.

I am sitting here trying to think of something to say that someone might actually care about, but alas…nothing. I am really confused as to why you are reading this. Are you really that bored? lol In any case I do appreciate it. I wish my life were more interesting. Then I could write about my latest trip to Argentina and share pictures of the baby whale I rescued on my way there. You know, something like that. Well, I am going to watch Madonna music videos and finish homework, ttfn.

Dolce & Gabbana S/S 2010 Campaign is Hawt

I can’t get as analytical with these pix as I did with the Vuitton ads cause I am too overwhelmed by sexiness. Steven Klein, who also shot Madonna’s Italian Neorealism themed spread for the label (which I mentioned in My Favorite Moments in 2009 Pop Culture), did an amazing job photographing models Adam Senn, Noah Mills, Sam Webb and David Gandy. It’s masculine, it’s Italian, it’s sexy. Had I the funds, I would be buying D&G S/S 2010 threads.

PS – Is it Noah Mills’s year or what? Kid is EVERYWHERE! He’s like a high paid, sexy video ho.

Madonna picks producers for next album!

According to Yahoo Music News UK, Madonna has allegedly picked two producers to work with her on her next album, which will be her first disc for Live Nation contract. The icon is rumored to have picked A-Trak who previously collaborated with Kanye West and Armand Van Helden. Also, another producer that she is allegedly working with Brendan O’Brien, who is known for his work with Bruce Springsteen, Bob Dylan and is currently working with Aerosmith according to Wikipedia. The first producer is right up her ally, but the second one, we are not too sure about. Unless she is going for a rock album, which is not a far stretch for the queen of “re-invention” (aka regurgitation). But, maybe she’s looking for solid well-written tunes as she has been lacking some of those lately. At any rate, we’re ready for the next phase as the last one was tepid.

2010's Predictions For Everyone

My predictions for 2010 is that it will be a year full of revelations and self-discovery for each and every individual even if you don’t experience them you will but they will be small or maybe you are just too cold and evil to feel them,
I also would like to highlight the fact that I watched I Am Because We Are and I cried 5 times and the one time I was so emotional I was crying for 10 minutes and I’m not ashamed or embarrassed to say that I cried watching the documentary because it is sad and that’s just a fact of life that Malawi is the 2nd poorest country in the world and all those benefit concerts held by bob geldof and bono the money those shows made never reached Malawi one of the most poorest countries in the entire world and they are the most cheerful and happiest people even though they have pain and suffering if you want to watch the full documentary on YouTube for free here is the link its the full movie lasts 1hr26mins and doesn’t have different segments it just plays all the way through and no stopping http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=h3awaN0nOwQ

Please view and watch this and if you are a YouTube user then save it in your playlist in case you might want to play it for someone or watch it again
I was so deeply moved anyway and I hope that you are also I would love it if you could post a reply post to me and tell me your views on the documentary and I will NOT accept any comments about Madonna, her children, her adoption,or anything to do with Madonna I just want to know your views on the documentary. And nothing about Madonna at all after all she’s doing her bit to raise awareness for this poverished country or you can just follow and tweet me your view at twitter

Thanks
From ColinYO
